A Tinubu Magistrates’ court has sentenced four prostitutes to 200 hours of community service after they agreed to the charge levelled against them by the police on Tuesday (yesterday).
The four women are Blessing Esu 28, Nancy Brownson 35, Patricia Timba 34 and Josephine Idoga 21 were ordered by the judge to sweep and clean the Magistrate’s Court and its surroundings for the period of the punishment.
According to the police, the women were arrested on different streets soliciting for customers on the 11th of November.
The police conducted a raid at about 2.25am on Victoria Island area and they were arrested and detained before being charged to court.
The count read, “ That you, Blessing Esu, Nancy Brownson, Patricia Timba, and Josephine Idoga, on November 11, 2013, at about 2.25am within different streets of Victoria Island, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District were found loitering for purpose of prostitution within banks’ vicinity.”
The prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Okoye, said the offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 166(a)(ii) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.
